Cute Little Curls...

A few days ago I decided I wanted to curl my hair but couldn't be bothered with the hassle of a curler (I have ridiculously thick hair and this takes hours!) So I used a easy peasy curling trick I learnt a little while ago! Heres some pictures of how it turned out!

This works best after you have washed your hair, leave them in and let it dry. First you need to create your 'twist braids' you do this by parting your hair into four, with two strands on either side, just like braids. Start with one side, you twist each strand separately but make sure you twist them in the same direction. Then once both strands are twisted, twist them around each other in the opposite direction that you originally twisted them. Then fasten them with a hair-tie. Repeat on the other side.

It should end up looking like this!

Its that simple! You then leave them in as long as you like, while your hair dries. The bonus is its a cute look anyway!! I did mine quite tight, but the tightness of the curls is up to you!

Once your hair is dry, you can take them out and run your fingers through the strands separating them into cute ringlets. Here's the finished product!

AND! The great thing about these curls is they survive being slept on and look just as great the next day...

And there you have it! I hope this was easy enough to follow, its my first attempt at a tutorial :D

Welcome To The Mermaids Lagoon

I'm pretty exhausted today, and perhaps a tiny bit hungover if I'm being honest. It was my friends 20th birthday party last night, and we have now been friends for 15 years which is pretty ridiculous, so we felt the need to celebrate! She kicked things off with a "High Seas" themed party (I LOVE themed parties!) so there were pirates and sailors a-plenty! We then headed off to town for the night, to finally arrive home at 3:30am. Looong but amazing night! Here's a few of the shots from our High Sea Adventure!

This was my outfit for the night, I adapted a look I like to wear
occasionally and made it more piratey!

I even had a sword!

Here she is... the birthday girl! Happy 20th Rach! Here's to another 15 years and more!

They put up some cute decorations!

And created some delicious punch! I'm not even going to tell you what was in this but lets just say there was a lot of liquor!

And for those lucky enough, a sea themed surprise!

I hope you guys had as good a Saturday night as I did!

As you may have noticed I changed the background of this little blog today! I wanted something a little easier to read and a bit more personalised. I dunno, what do you guys think?

Book Club Friday

I'm linking up again with Blonde...Undercover Blonde for Book Club Friday!
I'm still partway through The Age Of Innocence by Edith Wharton which is what I'm currently reading so I'm reviewing a book I read a little while ago!

The Jane Austin Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler

Synopsis

In California's central valley, five women and one man join to discuss Jane Austin's novels. Over the six months they get together, marriages are tested, afairs begin, unsuitable arrangements become suitable, and love happens. With her eye for the frailties of human behaviour and her ear for the absurdities of social intercourse, Karen Joy Fowler has never been wittier nor her characters more appealing. The result is a delicious dissection of modern realtionships.

My Thoughts

I really liked this book! The focus was less on Austin and more on the characters reading her novels. Every month, each character focuses on one novel and their lives unfold following some of its themes and storylines. The characters were really likeable and you don't have to have read Austin to like it. Its well written and fun to read, for those of you who find Austin hard to read, this book gives you a little taste of each story. Its funny, sad, and highly entertaining. And there is a fabulous movie to watch after you have read it!

A Little Bit Of Comfort...

It is freezing here in Hamilton today! I have a bit of a gap between my classes, and after just finishing a 4 hour workshop (!!!) I definitely need a bit of relaxing time. So I'm sitting in bed watching Game Of Thrones, eating Peanut Butter Chcolate and Chocolate Yogurt and wearing my winter goodies!

P.S Apologies for the below par photos, but I'm having issues with my camera :( and these were taken on my phone (which is unfortunately not an iPhone).

On Sunday night my flatmates and I had a huge roast and some yummy dessert and we sat around the table and had a cute meal. Which is different for us because we usually cook seperately and we don't actually have dining chairs (the life of a student!). We even set up drinks and candles!

So I am going to enjoy my moment of relaxation before I head off to class again at 5pm :( and then get to work on my many assignments I have coming up! I made a colourful reminder, just so I can keep track!

I hope you can grab a moment of relaxation too!

Congratulations Graduands!

I spent all of Thursday up in Auckland at the Massey University Auckland Graduation, where after around 9 years my mum was graduating!!

We got to watch her walk in the parade, then go up on stage and accept her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, she even had the funny hat! It was great to see her get acknowledged for all her hard work, its definitely taken a long time, and been a huge part of all our lives. But it was worth it.

The Parade!

With the family, my nana, aunt, and uncle
Here she is! Dr. Bradley :D
Congrats mum!

A Quick Little Update...

The last couple of days I have done some very fun things and some not so fun things! The not so fun things come first I think...

As I'm sitting here writing this I am in a ridiculous amount of pain! I had a trip to the orthodontist this morning to once again have my braces tightened, and I swear he was stabbing me with sharp metal objects just for fun! It was a lot more painful than usual! Another not so fun things is I have finally started one of my assignments for Uni and I hate it! I really do! I have no idea what I'm doing which basically means it will not get done till the last minute :/

On the bright-side though, my sister turned 18 and she had a party which I dragged a friend to! I went out clubbing on Saturday night for the first time in ages. I played netball for my mums indoor netball team which was fantastic! I miss playing netball! I went and saw The Hunger Games for the second time!!! (Eeee! you cannot understand my excitement!) I get to go to Zumba tonight, and tomorrow I'm off to Auckland to see my mum graduate!! She has spent around 10 years on becoming a psychologist and is finally there!

Plus the weather here has been fantastic! This is right beside my house! How lucky am I?!

Thats all for now xx

Book Club Friday

Today I am linking up with Blonde...Undercover Blonde  for Book Club Friday! I am on holiday for 2 weeks so I am getting a heap of reading done! I just finished this book...

Daughter Of Smoke And Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1)

Synopsis
Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this book, its very YA and reminds me a bit of The Mortal Instruments and Hush Hush, so if you are a fan of those then this book is for you! The fact that its set in Prague and its put a twist on the angel concept makes it an interesting read, and not as cliche as it could be! It has strong characters, fantastic twists, and a good strong story! Definitely give it a go!

Its only downfall is the sequel doesn't come out for a while and I want to know what happens next!
