Good enough excuse right?
Oh well, it is now.
I loved this book. I really did.
I thought it was beautifully written and had amazing imagery within its words, it was dramatic and scandalous but not in an obnoxious and obvious way. The characters were well developed and relate-able. It was a bit confrontational, with some controversial topics like molestation, abortion, and lots of sex, but I felt like it handled them well, especially as they were coming from the perspective of a fifteen year old.
The book was also incredibly sad. Admittedly I did read it at about 3am, I started it on a whim that night and couldn't put it down, so ended up finishing it in the wee hours of the morning. So it may have been my lack of sleep, but I bawled my little eyes out. I thought it was sweet, and disturbing, and heart breaking all at the same time.
I can see how the book has such a cult following, it really is the handbook of awkward and broken teenagers, and I think it is actually the perfect book for this as it is still hopeful, even after all the horrible things that happen to the characters. It also has some beautiful quotes that I adore.

I give this book a well deserved

I was in my early 20s when a new friend suggested I read this book...It had a different book cover, bright lime green with an image of a boy's shoes on the right. Honestly? I read the entire book over two days and loved every single word. It's a beautiful story with so much truth to it!!

Thanks so much for joining us in the book club! I am so glad that you enjoyed it and I love the pictures with the quotes. I am really intrigued by the division over the book! I really can't wait to read it and find out really where I stand and not just base it on the movie (which I did, and is bad, I know). The movie was a great movie and one of the few where the author of the book wrote the screen play and directed it!
I'm late to the part and reading it now. I saw your review and Alyx's and a few others, but avoided some because they warned of spoilers. Anyway. I'm really enjoying it so far! I'll be prepared to bawl my eyes out. :)
I have been wanting to read this book really bad! I am waiting for it at the library, I am like hold number 30 so it might be a while haha. Glad to see you enjoyed it :)
